Jaxon’s Birth Tulsa Birth Photographer

Jason’s birth session was, by far, the most emotional and tear-filled shoot I have ever had the privilege of being a part of. This wonderful family was my second shoot ever and have been faithfully coming to see me every 3 months ever since! At their daughter’s 9 month shoot I asked when they would be having another baby for me to photograph. They looked at each other and said, “Oh. In about 7 months.” AH!!!! I got to peek in the envelope the day of their gender reveal party and know the sex of the baby before they did 🙂 They have turned into SO much more than clients in the past 2 years. I cherish this family and they are close friends of mine. This birth session showcases their love for each other and how wonderful of a family they are. Jaxon came a few weeks early and Jennifer, who had been expecting to use an epidural, opted to do it naturally to make it easier on Jaxon. Her pain and determination are so unreal and were beyond empowering.
Her {amazing} husband kissed her right through a contraction, her Daddy rubbed her  feet and cried outside the door unable to hear his daughter in so much pain, her Mama never left her side, and her best friend and I cried like babies.
It. Was. MAGICAL.

Since he was a few weeks early the NICU team swooped him up before we could get any “after” pictures. Click HERE to see his super adorable newborn session!

Absolutely amazing! Thank you so much for sharing! It brought tears to my eyes 🙂

diy chalkboard calendar Tulsa Photographer

David and I bought our first home in June 2011. I have turned into a crafter extraordinaire since then! My Mom says, “It’s Grandma all over again!” and I’m okay with that 🙂

Like so many others, Pinterest has become….well. I think to call it an addiction is an understatement! It has really helped me transform my house into a home and put unique touches on it. It also helps organize my high energy mind 😉

The second we looked at this house I knew I would put a huge chalkboard calendar in the laundry room. I had seen this calendar on Martha Stewart’s website years ago and it stuck with me!

Here is what the space looked like before :

I went to Lowe’s and had them cut this piece of plywood for me. It’s about 48″L x 52″H

I put 2 coats of this magnetic primer on it before putting on the chalkboard paint. There were tons of spots that were not magnetic enough. I suggest 3-4 coats! {I high recommend using [two separate] foam rollers for both the priming and painting.}

After the magnetic primer dried I applied 2 coats of the this chalkboard paint:

After chalkboard paint dries you should “condition” it before using it. Conditioning is easy peasy! Just take a piece of chalk, hold it horizontally {trim your nails first!!}, and rub it over the entire surface leaving a full coat of “dust”.

In hindsight, I wish I would have done that part in the garage 🙂 After you have covered it in chalk, rub it in with a dry rag, then wipe it off with a damp rag, and you’re ready to use it! From this point I measured out the distance I wanted my boxes {aka: days on the calendar} then drew it up in chalk on the board using a laser level. Whoever invented the laser level is my hero. Where have these things been my entire life?!

I got all the lines drawn then went over them with paint and wiped the excess of when it dried.

I have a *slight* obsession with cans…. I love spray painting them and using them for everything and anything! I took this can, spray painted it, wrapped some twine around it, nailed it to the wall, and use it to hold the chalk! BAM!

Here is the final project!!! I had to add a dab of magnetic primer in the upper lefthand corner of each date {as you can see on the last few areas}. Those 2 coats just weren’t enough! I also glued some cork to the bottom right of the calendar so we could have our monthly bills/reminder right in front of us. I made the magnetic numbers so I could easily switch them out each month.
That’s a completely different post, though!

I would LOVE to see if you make a chalkboard calendar off of this post!!

Jaxon 15 days Tulsa Newborn Photographer

Hi everyone! I want to do a little intro as this is my first blog entry {ever} and my first newborn session {ever}. I look at the pictures of this gorgeous little man and see so many things I will do better next time…so please go easy on me 🙂

I did Jaxon’s birth session {also a first for me} when he made his entrance to the world on December 29th. You can see that very emotional shoot HERE. Jaxon was a few weeks early and stayed in the NICU for his first 13 days of his life. His loving parents visited him every single day twice a day during the allotted visiting hours. This little man is so loved by so many! Make sure to read the the little blurb above the last image for a quick tear jerking moment!

I probably won’t blog this many images every session. However, being my blogging+newborn debut I figure why not?!

Please note that all hats and the crown were made by my dear sweet friend with Sleeping Willow. She has a Facebook friend page exclusively for photographers. Photogs, you MUST add her : https://www.facebook.com/thesleepingwillow

Her online store is here and I promise you will swoon!

The stretch wraps you see Jaxon swaddled in can be purchased from another amazing friend of mine, Janean with Janean Gray Photography. You can find her here and also swoon over her work!!

Okay…..here he is!!!!

This next image was a completely original idea that I have not seen anywhere else (I even searched Google and Pinterest to make sure!)

I am officially going to make this my trademark shot for all newborns! I LOVE IT!!!

While Jennifer (Jaxon’s Mama) was at the hospital she met a lady on the elevator who had lost her baby that morning and sheasked Jenn if she knew anyone having a baby. Jenn gave the woman her deepest condolences and explained that her son Jaxon was in the NICU. A little later Jaxon’s nurse brought Jennifer a bag. Inside the bag was this handmade duck blanket from the {elevator} woman’s grandmother and she wanted her to have it.

What a selfless gesture that woman made and what a treasured item that blanket will ALWAYS be!

Thank you for taking the time to view this!! I always said I would never be a newborn photographer but I think Jaxon has changed my mind.

I mean, how could this beautiful little boy not have that kind of effect on me? 🙂

Rebbecca - January 16, 2012 - 1:13 PM

Gorgeous pics!! Additionally, your friends work (hats, wraps, etc.) are beautiful. Makes for a great working relationship I am sure.

The story about the duck blanket was so sad and sweet. I am sure your client WILL cherish that blanket for ever. I have an afgan that my son received from the hospital. He was a “Moses” baby and I became is forever mom. I will always cherish the afgan that was donated for him. Also, my nieces were born at 25 1/2 weeks 17 years ago. The families in NICU became a close knit group. Many stories happened there very similiar to what your client experienced as well. Everything received at that time have become cherished family heirlooms now.

Good luck to you and your client on your new adventures.
